Scott Smart is a writer, actor and scientist. Born and raised on a sheep and cropping farm on the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand, he spent his childhood writing in an office he constructed in the chook shed. Scott has a double degree in Arts and Science from Auckland University, and a Masters in Biotechnology from Melbourne University.
Scott’s work as a screen actor includes his regular role on Channel 7’s Winners and Losers, as well as roles on The Dr Blake’s Mysteries, Neighbours, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, and Shortland St. His screenplay The Bondi Boys was long-listed for the 2017 Australian Writers’ Guild INSITE Award. His first play The Readers was chosen out of 150 submissions for Belvoir’s inaugural 25A program in 2018.
Scott has worked extensively in various casual positions: in cancer research, catering, bar-tending and waiting tables at the suspiciously named Naughty Boy cafe. He’s also worked as a jewellery auction invoicer, a Lindt chocolate salesman and as a rock-mover at a French château.
At the end of 2017 Scott secured a Christmas casual position at a stationery store in Sydney, until a shelf fell into his eye and he was fired.
