Pierce Wilcox

Artist, Writer

Pierce is a director, performer, and librettist.

He is Associate Artist with Sydney Chamber Opera, a resident company at Carriageworks. His libretti include Notes From UndergroundFly Away Peter, which toured to the Melbourne Festival and was nominated for a Helpmann Award for Best Opera; and Oscar & Lucinda.

He also wrote and directed a new adaptation of the Futurist opera Victory over the Sun for the Biennale of Sydney in collaboration with performance artist Justene Williams. Upcoming works in 2020 include Her Dark Marauder, inspired by the poetry of Sylvia Plath, and the song cycle Future Remains.

Since 2018 Pierce has been the Artistic Director of Crack X, a new performance festival based in Newcastle. Other theatre highlights include co-creating and performing in They’ve Already Won, which toured nationally and received a Perth Fringe World nomination for Best Theatre, and working as an affiliate director and actor at Griffin Theatre Company.

He currently teaches at NIDA.
