Hugo Chiarella

A graduate of the Victorian College of Arts (VCA) Bachelor of Music Theatre, Hugo wrote the book and lyrics for the musical DreamSong which has been developed and performed through the VCA as well as the Carnegie 18 New Music Theatre Program at The Arts Centre Melbourne.

As a performer he has toured Australia and New Zealand in the role of Mendel in Fiddler on The Roof with Topol. On television, Hugo is the star of the channel Nine children’s series Magical Tales: Surprises, currently in its third season.

In 2014, Hugo presented DreamSong at Theatre Works for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival directed by Dean Bryant. He was in the Australian tour of Les Miserables and went on to perform the role of Grantaire in the international tour.

Hugo wrote the lyrics for the critically acclaimed one woman show Guilty Pleasures which has played at Chapel off Chapel, The Hayes Theatre and The Brisbane Powerhouse. He wrote the book and lyrics for the music Evie May – A Tivoli Story which is now playing at the Hayes Theatre in Sydney.

Hugo is also a writer and performer with sketch comedy group I’m With Stupid who recently produced content for ABC Iview as part of the ABC’s Fresh Blood comedy initiative.
