The Origin of Love: The Songs & Stories of Hedwig

Date: 2 Jun 2018

The multi-talented John Cameron Mitchell plays Australia for the first time in July with his new show, The Origin of Love: The Songs & Stories of Hedwig.

Mitchell directed, wrote and starred in the film Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001), for which he received the Best Director and Audience Awards at the Sundance Festival. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor.

His Broadway production of Hedwig garnered him a 2014 Tony Award for Best Revival of Musical and a Special Tony Award for his return to the role in 2015.

Sydney first encountered Hedwig in 2006 in a still-celebrated production starring iOTA as young Hansel Schmidt, a “slip of a girly boy” who catches the roving eye of a lusty American GI serving in Germany.
