Short + Sweet 2019

Date: 27 Jan 2019

The world’s biggest little play festival turns 18 this year.

This year’s line-up is made up of two programs that change each week including a slew of local, regional, interstate and international entries.

Short+Sweet has spread the popular 10-minute format in theatre, dance, cabaret and comedy across Australia and the globe with festivals as far afield as India, Malaysia, Dubai, NZ and Hollywood, California.

The 2019 fest will again feature judges’ voting and the People’s Choice audience votes – all heading for the April Gala Finals.

This week’s program includes:

Is This a Dream? by Wollongong writer Katina Samaras, an all-Illawarra, all-female presentation in which the depressed young Lisa encounters a famous trio of heroines: Joan of Arc, Florence Nightingale … and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

UK writer Nicky Donovan’s True to You, about an awkward first date when much more is revealed than intended.

Riding the Clutch by Central Coast playwright Sally Batley portrays a 17-year old and her mother during a driving lesson into uncharted waters.

The Last Shuffle tells of two horny nursing home residents with an eye for adventure.
