Set in the Russian Jewish community of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, Erika Sheffer’s Russian Transport is a family drama centred on Diana and Misha, an immigrant couple running a struggling car service while trying to carve out the American Dream for their teenagers, Alex and Mira.
But when Diana’s mysterious brother Boris arrives to stay with them, family loyalty is tested. For Alex and Mira, Uncle Boris is an exciting addition to their home, but soon Alex is pulled into his Uncle’s dangerous world.
Russian Transport was playwright Sheffer’s first play. Following its 2012 Off-Broadway World Premiere, she received the Paula Vogel Award and was nominated for the John Gassner Award by the Outer Critics Circle. After the New Group production at the Acorn Theatre took Off-Broadway by storm, Steppenwolf Theatre Co in Chicago had a highly acclaimed, successful season in 2014.
Joseph Uchitel directs this Sydney premiere. Ryan Carter, Hayley Sullivan, Rebecca Rocheford Davies, Nathan Sapsford and Berynn Schwerdt feature.
