If Matt and Olivia follow the golden rules of modern day dating for the mature adult, they should be on the path to dating bliss.
But do they actually have anything in common, or is this just another of those awkward dating blunders we all wish we could forget?
Written and directed by Artistic Director Mark Kilmurry, the production features Rachel Gordon and Yalin Ozucelik.
“Outdated is a wisp of a play,” writes Deborah Jones in Limelight. “Outdated may exist entirely in the comfortable, unsurprising realm of wish fulfilment but it does so with bags of spark and warmth. Kilmurry is intensely sympathetic towards his two stumbling, bumbling, would-be lovers, both of them clearly so smart and capable in any circumstance other than this.”
Writing for the Nine newspapers, Harriet Cunningham describes the play as “a missed opportunity”.
“We don’t see a huge development in the characters, nor yet do we see any real engagement with the difficulties of 21st century matchmaking. Perhaps that is too much to expect from a light-hearted romantic comedy. But I would at least expect more romance. And more comedy.”
