Nothing To Fear

Date: 15 Jan 2020

2019. An alternate universe. A shipping container on the border of Szágorgyarma (Saag-awr-dyor-mo: State of the Gyarma people), a ‘liberal’ democratic country.

Ma, Pa and Jasmin – refugees from a war-ravaged, Anglo-Celtic-majority region – believe this to be the ground zero of a new life of freedom, belonging and sanctuary. But after Ma starts hearing noises in the ceiling, it becomes apparent that some things are too good to be true.

The noises – along with isolation and paranoia – only become louder as each family member is overworked, underpaid, and undersold in work, school, and the online world.

This new play by Bryce Bofinger forms part of the Old 505’s 2020 Freshworks program.
