Nell Gwynn

Date: 19 Jul 2018

London, 1660. King Charles II has exploded onto the scene with a love of all things loud, extravagant and sexy.

And at Drury Lane, a young Nell Gwynn is causing stirrings amongst the theatregoers.

Playwright Jessica Swale traces the trajectory of the humble orange peddler who became one of England’s most celebrated actress, and mistress of the king.

She’s gutsy, fearless and talented, but at a time when women are second-class citizens, can Nell’s charm and spirit protect her from the dangers of the Court?

Deborah Jones directs this Sydney premiere. The cast includes Lloyd Allison-Young, Kate Bookallil, Naomi Livingstone, Peter Mountford,
Rupert Reid, Shan-Ree Tan and Bishanyia Vincent.
