Madama Butterfly

Date: 4 Jun 2020

Premiering at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour in 2014, this production brings a contemporary perspective to the timeless story of Cio-Cio-San, a Japanese girl whose life is turned upside down when she marries an American naval officer.

Using lavish sets and dazzling costumes, world-renowned director Àlex Ollé creates the perfect Butterfly under the stars – marrying spectacle with an incisive and sometimes confronting vision of this beloved opera.

Japanese soprano Hiromi Omura sings the role of Cio-Cio-San.
