Six abandoned souls try to save themselves through love.
But an ominous observer puts their declarations to the ultimate test.
Sarah Kane’s masterpiece, Cleansed is an uncompromising, visionary and savage portrait of the human heart.
Kane is widely recognised as one of the most radical and influential writers of the last 30 years. She wrote five plays (Blasted, Phaedra’s Love, Cleansed, Crave and 4.48 Psychosis) before taking her own life at the age of 28.
Kane’s plays caused controversy at their premieres; but a recognition of what makes her writing so remarkable – her reimagining of structure; her use of rhythm; the employment of austere, economic means to encompass intense passion; and her powerful expression of different mental states – has only grown since her death.
