Over the next 3 weeks, in a pilot program, online audiences will be able to access great Australian theatre captured live onstage and broadcast through the Australian Theatre Live Facebook page, for free.
Each week, Australian Theatre Live will stream a play from one Australia’s renowned theatre companies and featuring some of our best-known writers, directors and actors.
The season begins March 27th at 8pm AEST, with the Sydney Theatre Company’s famous, Wharf Revue – Celebrating 15 Years.
Week 2 (April 2 and April 3, 8pm AEST), features David Williamson’s Emerald City, captured at Griffin Theatre.
Week 3 (April 10, 11, 8pm AEST) is devoted to Apocalypse Theatre Company’s The Dapto Chaser (by Mary Rachel Brown), also captured at Griffin Theatre.
Australian Theatre Live’s broader library of pay-to-view plays includes Geoffrey Atherden’s Liberty Equality Fraternity, Rumplestiltskin, featuring the remarkable talents of Paul Capsis, and the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Michael Gow’s Away, starring Heather Mitchell.
“Our aim of this online streaming festival is to bring people together and reflect on the world class quality and creativity of the Australian Theatre community,” says Grant Dodwell, Creative Director of Australian Theatre Live. “As a not-for-profit organisation with limited funding, we ask participants to follow, like and share our page with others who are missing theatre during these isolating times.”
